Default Phasers

Okay, I've got it narrowed down to two: the new Malekko Omicron phaser vs the Retro-Sonic phase. Price and size vs vintage vibe and level control. Thoughts? Other options?

Flea, I have a vintage MXR Phase 100 that simply rules over every other phaser I ever tried, even though I have not tried the ones you mentioned.

What about the Whirlwind phaser, made by the same guy who founded MXR back in the day?

The problem with the vintage MXRs, for me, is that they're battery only and the really vintage ones don't have an LED.

I'll check out the Whirlwind, thanks!

The Retrosonic is a great 'phase 90' clone but with the very real world usable volume control, TBP and LED.

*I had an issue with the switch occasionally (I have an early one) but I've since resolved it and I believe that the company has changed the switch. I would not hesitate to recommend this phaser if you dig the MXR sound but need the newer features.

I actually replaced a vintage phase 90 with the Retro-Sonic on my live board. Not EXACTLY the same, but still gives that unobtrusive, but noticeable phase sound, plus the level control adds versatility. If you prefer your phase before your dirty pedals, or in front of an overdriven amp, this pedal sounds so sweet.

I also have a Home Brew Psilocybe, which can get some VERY over the top sounds, as well as classics. I actually prefer the Retro-Sonic, as it is more of a plug and play phaser, where the Home Brew takes a bit of tweaking to get right.

I had a Psilocybe, which sounded great, but as you say has lots of knobs/switches to contend with. Simple is good--I'm really looking for a single, usable rhythm phase sound for a couple of songs from our setlist.

Well then the Retro-Sonic is it for you.
All the positives the guys have said here are true,
plus it's small and not an all-consuming phaser.
It's very tasty and classic sounding to me.

If u can, try out the Maxon PT999 it is a very mid-tone phaser that is very noise free and sounds great on clean and on a amp`s dirt channel.
Tasty for leads IMHO and less over the board as an MXR Phase 90 which sounds too deep-effected on all settings.

I too am looking...I am leaning towards the Mad Prof phaser or the Retro Sonic, unless I decide to put a vibe back on my board.
