Default Bill Frisell/Buddy Miller/Marc Ribot in Nashville...

Holy cow.

Got back from the above-mentioned show a few hours ago. It was so nice to see three masters of the instrument do their thing. I'm especially a fan of Ribot's playing. Great, crazy stuff...

Thankfully, the show came about as a result of the three guitarists putting stuff to tape here in Music City. I can't wait to check it out. I highly recommend that you folks do the very same!

That is quite the line up there. I love Ribot. I missed a chance to see Frisell at the Continental Club this past spring. Stupid! Stupid me!

Did they all play together or was it a triple bill?

Nice to hear so much interest in the show!

As I said before, the show was a one-off. The three guys have been recording an album here in Nashville of old country tunes. Miller, who did the vast majority of talking throughout the show, explained that there will be a lot of female singers tackling vocal duties on it. Unfortunately, the only name I remember Miller dropping is Shawn Colvin.

As far as instrumentation was concerned, Frisell stuck to a Telecaster for the entire show, Miller mostly played a Jerry Jones Baritone along with a mando guitar thingie and another electric, and Ribot stuck with a Telecaster, an old Country Gentleman and an old small-bodied Gibson acoustic. Miller and Ribot (?!) handled vocal duties on everything.

They were backed by a pedal steel guitarist, an upright bassist and a great drummer using a sparse Gretsch four piece kit.

Had I known what to expect, I certainly would've boned up on my old country tunes so that I could tell you what was played. But, as you can guess, with Frisell, Miller and Ribot in the building, it's really hard to know what to expect!

Either way, the show was filmed... So maybe it will see release sometime in the future. I can only hope so.

Whoa! Thanks for the clip- I'd never even heard of that guitar before. That thing sounds great, and goes to prove that sometimes a cheap guitar sounds better than an expensive/handmade/boutique model.

Of course, in Miller's hands, damn near anything would sparkle.

It would only make sense that Miller would be the glue that makes it stick (he always is). As to vocalists, I'd hope that Buddy's lovely wife Julie would be included; she sings beautifully. I've never seen Buddy gig without his cheap Italian plastic guitar, so it's probably the Wandre.

Yep! That was the other electric. I knew I wouldn't be able to figure out what the hell it was... It definitely has that 60's Italian/German vibe about it, though.

I want to say he only used the Wandre on one or two numbers. It was mostly the Jerry Jones baritone.

Thanks for the help!
