What Wagster said. EVH was an innovator. Although Randy was a good player he wasn't around long enough to really bring much new to the table.

Eddie's in the pocket playing is one of the many things that made him so special. They guy swings like a MoFo.

Randy was a great and tasteful player but EVH just blew the doors wide open guitar-wise in the late 70s....

Eddie's rhythm playing is the best part of his playing in my opinion. His guitar work on Fair Warning is scary. I can't even classify him as a "shredder", there is too much depth in his playing.

I like them both but Randy gets my vote, I just seem to prefer Randys style of playing!

Always like Randy better. He didn't need to resort to cheap tapping tricks and g string whammy dives every 5 seconds.
