Does it give you an 80s guitar tone which makes your virtuosity a moot point because you have no tonal taste?

Mmm if you consider it a two channel tube preamp, so basically the front end of one of those Vai amps, rather than another drive pedal it's not that expensive. Recording out, everything..

It's more than just an OD pedal, wish it had a balanced XLR out though.

Ok I can see why Vai wanted this. Something close to his signature tone and it is portable. Great for him. But, for the rest of us? Stupid money. If you like the amp why not just buy the amp? It’s only another $400. And I can think of a number of preamps that I would much rather have… Kingsley, anyone?

Why, yes! Yes, it does. And for the low, low price of only 500 clams! Can I sign you up for one?

P.S. I am actually somewhat a Carvin fanboi. I have 4 of their guitars hanging from my wall and those will never leave me. Their electronics? Eh <shrug> not so much. An X100B reproduction amp? Maybe. Anything else... Nah, I'll pass.

I agree on Vai's tone sometimes being weirdly annoying.
However his virtuosity and uniqueness is way up high with the legends of guitar.
He has lots of guitar masterpieces that captivates and inspire lots of guitar players and fans.
If you have not listen to all his work please try to. I advise listening to some songs on The Ultra Zone alive double album.
Some favorites from that album are: Principessa and, Black Forest.
The Passion and Warfare album rocks.
Alien Love Secrets album has a great master piece bluesy swinging song called
Smooth modern gain: tight balanced saturation with note definition.
Just like the insects take their time and collect their food, I can surely save and buy myself any amp (with time).

Vanstone: I agree 100% on Kingsley. I'd love his Harlot pedal, or the Minstrel, or any of his pedals!

Rolo: I'm familiar with all of Vai's work and was definitely a bigger fan when I was younger. His creativity and virtuosity is unmatched. I just wish he'd get away from that cheesy 80s guitar tone that he will not let go of.
